The Lake District is a vibrant and imaginative county where the past and the future combine. Traditional crafts are celebrated, as well as the exciting range of new sports activities such as quad biking and zorbing.
On your stay in this dramatically beautiful part of the world you will find a whole host of interesting and imaginative events, activities and shows to take part in. There are many museums hosting cultural events throughout the year, as well as independent activities, agricultural shows, and specialist crafts fairs.
Here are a selection of the events taking place throughout the region during the year: The Appleby Horse Fair takes place in June, as do the Boot Beer Festival, the Keswick Beer Festival, the Lakeland Trails, the Lakes Alive event, the Summer Solstice Lakes Race, the Landscape Festival at Fitz Park, and the Woolfest.
In July there is the Coniston Water Festival, the Ambleside Rushbearing Procession, the Grasmere Rushbearing, the Lakeland Rose Show, the Cumberland County Show, the Potfest in the Park, the Ambleside Flower Show, Penrith Show, Windermere Airshow, Cumbria Steam Gathering, Ambleside Traditional Sports Day, and the Lake District Summer Music event.
In August the Cartmel Show, the Lake District Sheep Dog Trials, the Lakeland County Fair, the Hawkeshead Show, the Solway Music Festival, the Grasmere Lakeland Sports Show, and the Keswick Agricultural Show.
In September and October the Helvellyn Triathalon, the Sedbergh Festival of Books and Drama, the Westmorland County Show, the Kendal Torchlight Carnival, the Great North Swim, the Egremont Crab Fair, the Ulverston Lantern Procession, the Borrowdale Shepherds Show, the Coniston Walking Festival, the Ulswater Outdoor Festival, the Eskdale Show, and the Muncaster Halloween Event.
In November and December, the Kendal Mountain Festival, the Powerboat Speed Records Week, the Ambleside Christmas Light Show and Procession, the Windermere Winter Masked Parade, and the Keswick Traditional Christmas Fayre.
All in all there is an exciting variety of shows, fayres and activities for all the family throughout the year.
